Lasallian Prayers

One LaSalle Prayer

Let me be the change I want to see
To do with strength and wisdom
All that needs to be done.
And become the hope that I can be.
Set me free from my fears and hesitations
Grant me courage and humility
Fill me with spirit to face the challenge
And start the change I long to see.
Today I start the change I want to see.
Even if I’m not the light
I can be the spark
In faith, service, and communion.
Let us start the change we want to see.
The change that begins in me.

Prayer of a Lasallian

Father in heaven, God of love, all I have and am, is yours.
Grant that I may become a living sign of your compassion in this world.
Grant me the faith to live my life,
always in the awareness of your loving presence.
Grant me zeal to serve without thought of reward,
those to whom you send me.
Grant me charity to bear the burdens of my brothers and sisters.
Teach me to seek your Son’s face, in the last, the lost, and the least.
In whatever I undertake, may I seek above all things, to procure your glory,
as far as I am able, and as you will require of me.
Strengthen me by your Holy Spirit, to follow Jesus by living
the commitment I make today.

Gratitude & Reflection

Prayer of Gratitude

Heavenly Father, thank You for pouring abundant blessings into my life and providing far beyond what I could imagine. Thank You for surrounding me with loving family and friends who lift my spirit and keep my focus on You. I praise You for Your constant protection, Your guidance in my decisions, and the reassuring ways You show me I am never alone.
Lord, please bless and protect those I love, and give me the wisdom to show them daily how much they matter. Keep my heart forever grateful and help me express that gratitude through both my prayers and my acts of kindness to others. Amen.

Making Our Souls Great

To pray is to regain a sense of the mystery that animates all beings, the divine margin in all attainments. Prayer is our humble answer to the inconceivable surprise of living.
It is all we can offer in return. Who is worthy of being present at the constant unfolding of time? Here we are amidst the meditation of the land, the songs of the water, the humility of the flowers, flowers wiser than all alphabets -
Suddenly we feel embarrassed, ashamed of our complaints and clashes in the face of tacit glory. How strange we are in the world! Only one response can maintain us:
gratefulness for the gift of our unearned chance to serve, to wonder, to love life and each other. It is gratefulness which makes our small souls great.

Wisdom, Study & Discernment

Prayer to the Holy Spirit for Wisdom

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithfulness and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit, and they shall be created, and you shall renew the face of the earth. O God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, through Christ Our Lord.
Amen.

Prayer before Study by St Thomas Aquinas

"The beginning of wisdom is fear of the Lord, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." Proverbs 9:10
Creator of all things, true Source of light and wisdom, lofty origin of all being, graciously let a ray of Your brilliance penetrate into the darkness of my understanding and take from me the double darkness in which I have been born, an obscurity of both sin and ignorance. Give me a sharp sense of understanding, a retentive memory, and the ability to grasp things correctly and fundamentally. Grant me the talent of being exact in my explanations, and the ability to express myself with thoroughness and charm. Point out the beginning, direct the progress, and help in completion; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit for Discernment

O Holy Spirit of God, Divine Light and source of all wisdom, I come before You today with a mind that seeks clarity and a heart that seeks Your will. Grant me the grace to see the choices before me with truth and understanding, free from anxiety, fear, or worldly distractions.
Bestow upon me the gift of wisdom, that I may choose what is pleasing to You and what brings peace to my soul. If I am unsure, guide my thoughts and direct my steps. Give me the courage to embrace Your direction, even when the path is difficult, and the patience to wait for Your timing.
May my decision be made with the desire to grow in Your love and to serve You faithfully. Amen.

Thomas Merton Prayer

Make me know Your ways, Lord; Teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; (Psalm 25: 4-5)

My Lord God, I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end.

Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am doing so. But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope that I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire. And I know that if I do this you will lead me by the right road, though I may know nothing about it.

Therefore, will I trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone.

Prayer in Times of Stress & Overwhelm

Lord, You see the heavy burdens I carry. When stress and anxiety overwhelm me, I turn to You for strength. Please calm my racing mind and quiet my thoughts. Remind me that You are always with me, and nothing is too big for Your care. When pressure mounts, grant me patience and clarity. Help me trust Your guidance, even when the path ahead is hidden.  Fill my heart with Your peace, and let Your grace sustain me through this challenge. I place my worries into Your hands and rest in Your loving care. Amen.

Comfort in Anxiety (scripture passages)

"Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff comfort me."
— Psalm 23:4

"For I know well the plans I have in mind for you. I have plans for your welfare and not for woe, so as to give you a future of hope. When you call me, and come and pray to me, I will listen to you."
— Jeremiah 29:11-12

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat [or drink], or about your body, what you will wear. Isn't life more than food and the body more than clothing?"
— Matthew 6:25

"And let the peace of Christ control your hearts, the peace into which you were also called in one body. And be thankful."
— Colossians 3:15

"Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
— Philippians 4:6-7
