Traveling Outside the U.S.
Update as of April 2026:
If you are traveling outside of the United States, please review the following important information to help ensure a smooth entry to and departure from the U.S. We also encourage you to review the Lewis University Academic Calendar and plan your travel accordingly.
Last Semester
If this is your last semester, we strongly discourage international travel. If you have an emergency and need to travel, please contact our office first so we can guide you.
Let Us Know Your Travel Plans
Please notify the International Student and Global Scholar Services (email ISGSS@lewisu.edu) office of your travel dates at least two weeks in advance. This helps us make sure your immigration record is active and in good standing.
Class Registration
Be sure you are registered for your current classes and the upcoming term before returning to the U.S. If you have in-person classes, let your professors know about your travel plans.
Updated I-20 with Travel Signature
Ensure your I-20 has a valid travel signature. Carry a printed copy of your current and upcoming class schedules when traveling.
Important Documents
We recommend bringing printed copies of documents that show your visa status and confirm your lawful presence in the U.S.
Passport and Visa
You must have a valid passport and visa. Your passport should be valid for at least six months beyond your intended date of travel.
Be Prepared at the Border
You may experience additional screening when entering the U.S., so be ready to present your documents. We also encourage you to review the “” information before you travel.
